An electrical ballast is a devise intended to limit the amount of current in an electrical circuit. A widely used example is the inductive ballast used in flourescent lamps, to limit the current through the tube, which would otherwise rise to destructive levels due to tube's negative resistance characteristic. Ballsts vary in designs. They can be as a series resistor or inductor, capacitors, or a combination or as complex as electrical ballasts used with flourescent lamps and high-intensity discharge lamps.

A transformer is an electrical devise that transforms energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction. A varying current in the transformer's primary winding creates a varying magnetic fkux in the core and a varying magnetic field impinging on the secondary winding. The varying magnetic field at the secondary induces a varying electromotive force or voltage in the secondary winding. Transformers can thus be designed to efficientlty change AC voltage from on woltage level to another within power networks.
LED drivers are the heart and soul of your LED lighting system. That's why it is important to choose the right LED driver for your application. A LED driver is the power supply for an LED system, much like a ballast is to a flourescent or HID lighting system. LED drivers may be constant voltage types ( usually 10V, 12V, and 24V) or constant current types (350mA, 700 mA and 1A) Some drivers are manufactured for specific LED devises or arrays. LED drivers are usually compact enough to fit inside a junction box.
